Attendance

"EVERYONE TO EXCEL THROUGH PRIDE AND AMBITION"

‘It is the legal responsibility of every parent to make sure their child receives an education either by attendance at a school or by education otherwise than at a school.’

ATTENDING SCHOOL EVERY DAY HELPS YOUR CHILD:
  • To take part in lessons, access learning and reach their full potential
  • To be involved in all aspects of school life
  • To enjoy a structured routine
  • To make friends and develop social skills
  • To feel part of the school community
  • To value and understand the importance of education
  • To have greater success throughout secondary school

Parents are required to call the school to report their child’s absence before 8:55am on the day of the absence and each subsequent day of absence and advise when they are expected to return.

Managing Poor Attendance:

At Montem, we believe every children has the right to attend school regularly.  In our drive raise attendance, we will on:

  • Day 1 of absence:  A Classdojo message be sent home;
  • Day 2 of absence: Class teacher will phone home;
  • Day 3 of absence: Senior Leaders are notified;
  • Day 4 of absence: Home visit by Attendance Officer and Director of Inclusion.
  • Day 5 of absence: Parents will be invited in for a meeting with the SLT.

Lost Learning Time

A good education gives children the best possible start in life. All children at Montem Academy have an equal chance of making good use of the education offered; to achieve this, it is of vital importance that children attend school regularly and punctually. Children who do not attend school regularly and on time have difficulty keeping up with work and under-achieve.

ARRIVING AT SCHOOL ON TIME HELPS YOUR CHILD:

  • Access all of the important learning, which leads to greater achievement
  • Have some social time to settle into class.
  • Prevents them from feeling embarrassed.
  • Prevents them from disturbing the learning of the rest of the class.

Managing Lateness:

At Montem, we believe, ‘Every Second Counts’.  In our drive to improve punctuality, we will on:

  • The 3rd late: A classdojo message will be sent home
  • The 4th late: Class teacher will phone home
  • The 5th late: Parents will be invited in for a meeting with the SLT.
