On Monday 21st May School Councillors from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 had an amazing opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament.

After an early start, we headed for the Education Centre to be greeted by our tour guides for the morning.  We were then taken inside the House of Lords and were astounded by how beautiful the architecture and stained glass windows were.   We saw the Queen’s beautiful gold throne before we were taken where she is not allowed to go – the House of Commons.  It looked so much bigger when empty and we were amazed by the large number of microphones used for live television recordings.

The tour was definitely an experience the children will never forget and although we were only there for an hour and a half, we learnt so much about democracy, the voting process and how laws are passed.

Well done School Council, your behaviour, enthusiasm and questioning were a credit to Montem Academy.
