Is your Child too ill to come to school?

"EVERYONE TO EXCEL THROUGH PRIDE AND AMBITION"

Is my Child too ill for School? It can be tricky deciding whether to keep your child off from school if they are unwell. In order to support you we have pulled the below information together.

Remember, if you do keep your child at home, it is important to phone the school on the first day. Let us know that your child will not be in and give us the reason. Please keep us updated on your child’s condition.

Coughs and colds

It is fine to send your child to school with a cough or common cold. Encourage your child to throw away any used tissues.

Minor Headaches and Stomach Pain

Please send your child to school after giving them Calpol at home if required. Once with their friends they may start to feel better. Should their condition worsen our Welfare Officer will contact you.

Cold sores

There is no need to keep your child home from school if they have a cold sore.

Conjunctivitis

You do not need to keep your child away from school if they have conjunctivitis, visit the pharmacy for eye drops.

Hand, foot and mouth disease

There is no need to keep children off but do encourage them to wash their hands regularly.

Head lice and nits

There is no need to keep your child off school if they have head lice, you can treat them without seeing a GP.

Slapped cheek

Your child can attend school because, once the rash appears, they are no longer infectious. Please inform your child’s class teacher.

High temp

Keep your child home until they no longer have a high temperature. Your child should return to school as soon as the high temperature has subsided.

Chickenpox

Keep your child off school until all spots have crusted over, usually 5 days.

Scarlet Fever

If your child has scarlet fever, they will need antibiotics from the GP. Your child can return to school 24 hours after starting antibiotics.

Vomiting and Diarrhoea

Children with Diarrhoea or vomiting should stay away from school until they have not been sick or had diarrhoea for 48 hours.

If your child has been prescribed medication from the GP we can administer this to them at school. Please speak to our welfare assistant Mrs Babar in the Main Office and complete a Medication consent form.  If you are not sure if your child should attend school please get in touch. We are happy to help and advise you. Please note we cannot administer medication that has not been prescribed by the GP but are happy for you to come into school to administer if needed.
