Sustainable Citizenship

Montem Academy supports pupils to develop in many diverse aspects of life. As part of our commitment      to pupils Personal Development, the school has a programme of Sustainable Citizenship experiences for our pupils. Through our Sustainable Citizenship programme, we aim to encourage pupils to make good choices, understand what they need to achieve to tackle climate change and become more eco-friendly.

 

Year 6

Dig For Victory - Green Fingered Entrepreneurs.

In Year 6, the pupils study WWII as part of their literacy and History studies. Pupils will grow their own vegetables and sell these to parents from their very own market stall.

Grow Your Own Food

Every Year Group will have the opportunity to develop green fingers as they grow and eat their own fruits and vegetables throughout the year.

Year 1 and 2

Biodiversity

Year 1 and 2 will learn about the importance of promoting natural habitats and biodiversity by creating bird feeders out of recycled materials.

Year 3 and 4

Biodiversity

Year 3 and 4 will learn about the importance of promoting natural habitats and biodiversity by creating bug hotels from recycled materials.

Year 5 and 6

Renewable Energy

Year 5 and 6 will learn about renewable energy. They will (virtually) tour a renewable energy plant and explore how this technology will help to sustain our planet and environment.

Whole School

Global Citizenship

Every Year Group will have the opportunity to raise money for charity and donate to our Food Donation Station. They will learn about the importance of helping and providing for others. As well as exploring how food waste impacts on the environment.

Promoting Nature

Every year group will develop their gardening skills by planting a tree in the local environment.

EYFS

Farm Visit

Our Early Years pupils will have the opportunity to meet farmers and their animals. They will learn how these animals are used on a farm and explore where our food comes from.
